If you are seeking
web site design and have considered using one of the many Indian web
design services available because of their lower rates, or if you
are a web design company who is linking to or outsourcing your web
design work to Indians, I want to let you in on a secret that may
make you think twice.
I think we all know that life in the
Middle East is much different than how we experience it in
America. As a female web designer, the idea that male Indians,
Pakistanis, and other such nations treat their wives and daughters
worse than their own dogs is horrifying, yet we overlook it and
consider it a part of their culture and religion. In the last few
years, it has come to the attention of the Western world media
that some Indian men actually commit a crime called "Bride Burning."
Yes, you read that right... BRIDE BURNING. A man will burn his
wife alive because the wife's family isn't paying enough dowry to
keep the greedy husband and his family happy.
5,199 women were burned to death in 1994 alone. Dowries are
expensive gifts given to the husband and his family at the time of
the wedding. Many husbands are demanding that his wife's family
continue giving more and more dowry even after being married for
years. If the family can't afford it, or does not comply, he
threatens to hurt or kill their daughter (his wife) in
retaliation.
Well, guess what, all you smart
Indian guys? You keep writing to me, asking me to outsource my
work to you, and you're taking huge amounts of business away from
American web designers with your low rates because you can
probably buy an entire computer in India for $100. Good for you.
I'm AMERICAN and I despise the way you treat women. I hope your
business fails. I know that India is gaining great economic
growth, mostly due to computer technology, but I heard you
only get more greedy with the more money you get. That's true of
most people, but we don't burn other people alive when we don't
receive the money and goods that we desire. You need to stop your
dowry marriages. There's no reason a woman's family should have to
pay YOU to marry your crazy ass. Many Indian women are now
aborting their female fetuses so they don't have to deal with this
issue when the daughter grows older and marries. Eventually, you
are going to have 2 men to every 1 woman, and you'll be begging
for a wife, not expecting her to pay you to accept the
burden of taking her. This is outrageous.
I want to also mention the simple
fact that so many American companies are shutting down their
companies here and moving them to other countries that have
cheaper labor. We've all seen it happen in our own areas. In
Chattanooga, over 200 people came to work the other day only to
find that they had no job after years of loyal service. The
company just shut down with no warning. It's happening all over
the United States. It's more than likely that every piece of
clothing on your body right now was made in another country. Tommy
Hilfiger, GAP, Old Navy... all made in foreign countries. That is
obviously a problem, but who cares that Tommy Hilfiger is charging
$60 for a pair of jeans that some poor kid in Hong Kong made for
probably 3 cents? He must need the money to support his daughters'
trips to Africa to help the poor. (I am not kidding, they had
their own TV show on MTV.) Hey Hilfiger girls, if you want to help
the poor, how about talking your father into having Americans make
his clothes for him?
I won't be exchanging links with
Indian web design companies anymore. Don't send me solicitations
asking me to outsource work to you (I don't outsource to ANYONE.)
And I'm spreading the word, so don't be surprised if you get a
cold shoulder from American web designers. The more we help you
promote your site through link exchanges, the more of our business
you will take.
By the way, I have received a few letters from Indians who have
read this and dispute what I'm saying here, or tell me that it's
not some big problem like I'm making it out to be. Please
read the article I linked to above before you write to me.
That article was written by an Indian man who is trying to educate
us about this issue. Since he is from your country, I'm sure he
knows what he is talking about much more than I do and you should
read what he said before disputing this article with me.

Hats off to you to post this article on Indian men..! I am an
Indian and I RESPECT you for being so candid and open regarding
the outsourcing scenario. I am an architecture major in US and
firmly believe and despise the fact that so many Americans are
loosing their jobs...yes some sections of Indian society do all
the things that you mentioned...the old Indian Man in fact is a
chauvinistic Pig and it has taken a lot of cultural upheaval for
the men of today not to be the same...but as you say old habits
die hard.
Just wanted to appreciate your honesty in bringing this point
afore.

Im a 15 yr old and i just found out about 'Bride Burning'I read
your article about it and i totally agree with you, and it's kind
of sad that women are willing to abort female fetuses just so they
dont have to through that experience. It's inhumane what males
from the Middle East are doing just because they think they need
more many when they're suppose to support and take care of the
family, according to their religion women practically cant do
anything.

I'm an indian. I was juz browsing when I came accross ur webpage
and ur comments on Indian male. I could have ignored it but juz
wanted to tell u that this information is exaggerated. You had to
go back to 1994 to get some crime reports of this country whereas
I could easily find something abt urs in the recent past. You
boast of urself as developed nation, human rights and all junk. U
won't once u see this link.
