My good friend and associate, Jack Humphrey, author of Power Linking 2 Evolution is the first, that I am aware of, to come up with the term "Blinking". What is it you ask? Well it is when blogs or weblogs combine with linking to create an incredible vehicle for website content and promotion.

Blogs or weblogs are not new but they are fast becoming more and more popular with webmasters looking to create fresh content and more interactions with their visitors and customers.

Blogs are simply an online journal (which are frequently updated) and its entries are presented in sequential order, based on the date it was added. Blogs have usually been personal sites that someone sets up as a means of creating a dialog on a particular subject(s).

Recently though weblogs have gotten the attention of webmasters, as a new viable tool for promoting. One reason for this is spam. Email marketing has taken a hit due to spam; weblogs thus present an alternate interactive tool. Internet marketers such as Allen Says and Jimmy D. Brown use weblogs, Search Engine Guide's new members area is a weblog.

Another reason for using weblogs is that search engines love them. Blogs are usually:

• topic specific
• content rich
• link rich, text based

All components needed to create a search engine friendly site. It was for this reason, why I first became interested in weblogs.

I have done quite a bit of time to study many of the weblog scripts, services, and sites out there. The more I have found out about weblogs, the more I like them. It is really is a win-win scenario.

Providing up-to-date information, revelant content, fostering a dialog with your website's visitors/customers/subscribers and creating a new doorway to your website all at the same time?! Incredible.

Now weblogs will not solve all your problems or get you to the top of the search engines overnight but they do provide you with another tool to help create a better website.
